LEGOs – Best-Selling Christmas Toys

Toys are probably the most popular gifts for Christmas. To children, Christmas and toys are inseparable. LEGOs are extremely popular – during the Christmas season, nearly 28 sets of LEGO are sold every second. It is no wonder, that, despite the difficulties this 100-year-old Danish company was going through in the beginning of this century, LEGO became the world’s most valuable toy company in 2012, and has been on the rise since. The popularity of Legos may be timeless, however, other Christmas toys have also been finding ways into the hearts of children (and the wallets of their parents) throughout the last several decades. Read further and find out which Christmas toys these are. Maybe some of them were your favorites and will remind you of your childhood?

Other Popular Christmas Toys

Toy manufacturers make great effort to put their best toys on the market around Christmas season. Of course, most of them reflect the trends in pop culture in a particular period. For example, in 1985, the most popular toy was Optimus Prime, while in 1988 it was the “Ghostbusters Proton Pack”.  The “Batmobile” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” also sold well at that time. The “Toy Story”-themed products had the highest sales twice in the last thirty years, while the winners in 2014 and 2015 were toys inspired by “Frozen” and “Star Wars”.

One can also follow the technological progress by looking at these toys – in the eighties and the nineties the popular toys were dolls and action figures, but now game consoles and tablets end up at the tops of the lists. Virtual toys may be taking over, however, the best-sold toy of the 2015 (Jedi sword) proves that the “actual” ones would not give up without a fight.
